Collapse The Salvation Army Trial: $227 Million of Strategic Decision From the Lawyers That Made Them (Philadelphia, Simulcasts, Live Webcast)

Don’t miss this exciting and dynamic presentation that will provide you with unique insight into what happened at this historic trial!

In February 2017, a historic settlement was reached in a high profile tragedy involving the collapse of the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Center City Philadelphia in June of 2013. After a nearly four month long trial, the Philadelphia jury, in half a day of deliberation, found that all defendants in the case were liable for the seven deaths and twelve injuries.
Explore the strategies used to tell the story of this complicated case, the challenges of suing one of the nation’s most respected nonprofit organizations, the coordination of testimony of endless witnesses, the creative use of focus groups to craft plaintiffs’ theories, the preparation of relevant experts to support plaintiffs’ theories and the feedback provided by the jurors who heard and decided the case. Consider the implications of this case, and the findings of the jury and what lesson you should take away as you prepare to try your next personal injury case.

This seminar will provide information that will be helpful to any practitioner and cover these topics:

    • Venue considerations
    • Targeted, creative pleading
    • Motions in limine
    • Expert section and preparation
    • Calling defense witnesses on cross
    • The Powerpoint opening
    • Persuasive closing arguments
